About the UUID Generator
The UUID Generator creates version-4 (fully random) or version-7 (time-ordered) UUIDs using the browser's cryptographic random source — collision probability is negligible. v7 embeds a millisecond timestamp so IDs sort chronologically, which is ideal for database primary keys. Optionally output uppercase, without hyphens, or wrapped in braces.
A 128-bit identifier with 122 random bits, formatted as xxxxxxxx-xxxx-4xxx-yxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx — the most common UUID version for random IDs.
UUID v7 places a Unix millisecond timestamp in the high bits, so generated IDs are naturally time-sortable. This makes them far better as database primary keys than v4, because they avoid the index fragmentation that random UUIDs cause on insert.
